About the Role
Drive end-to-end network projects for R&D, encompassing architecture to execution across branch networks, private networks, and AWS connectivity. This role involves designing and operating the networks that support R&D and office environments, with a primary focus on on-premises and private networks, while expanding coverage to the entire network architecture, including AWS.
Responsibilities
- Design and operate internal LANs, branch networks, and private networks.
- Define network requirements for new office setups, relocations, and floor expansions.
- Determine hardware configurations and equipment sizing based on user count, device count, traffic volume, required bandwidth, port density, PoE requirements, redundancy, and wireless AP density.
- Design and operate Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks.
- Configure and maintain VLANs, routing protocols, and firewall rules.
- Perform hands-on operation and management of FortiGate and Cisco Meraki hardware.
- Design and review connections between on-premises / private networks and AWS network components.
- Perform network troubleshooting and manage incident response.
- Coordinate with telecom carriers and network vendors.
- Plan and manage network projects, including tracking issues, monitoring progress, and coordinating across stakeholders.
- Manage on-premises infrastructure, such as Linux servers and NAS storage.
- Create and maintain network topology diagrams and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Design and operate networks with a strong focus on information security best practices.
Requirements
- Strong foundational knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, Routing, VLANs, etc.).
- Hands-on experience designing and operating L2/L3 switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Proven track record in network troubleshooting and issue isolation.
- Operational experience with on-premises environments (Linux servers, NAS storage, etc.).
- Experience coordinating with telecom carriers and network vendors.
- Ability to design and operate networks with a security-first mindset.
- Willingness to learn existing architectures upon joining and expand your scope to AWS design, modification, and testing.
- 1.5+ years of practical experience with AWS or Google Cloud infrastructure.
- AWS or Google Cloud certification (Associate level or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience driving projects forward (e.g., as PMO, Project Lead, or through stakeholder coordination).
- Willingness to expand your scope upon joining to cover on-premises systems, private networks, and branch networks.
- Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, Routing, VLANs) will be assessed during the interview process.
- Ability to explain the reasoning and thought process behind your decisions.
- Willingness to expand your focus from on-premises/private networks to the end-to-end network architecture, including AWS.
- Ability to thoroughly understand the existing environment before executing safe, reliable changes and operations.
- Proactive attitude toward expanding your technical domain.
- Ability to balance technical decision-making/design reviews with PMO and project leadership responsibilities.
- Ability to clearly explain and justify right-sized hardware configurations and sizing based on branch requirements.

About the Company
- Specialized expertise is required for our private networks and on-premises infrastructure. To ensure we retain critical knowledge—such as system architecture, technical know-how, and vendor management—in-house rather than relying solely on temporary staff, we are looking to bring on a full-time employee to own this domain.
- Relying entirely on vendor requests often fails to deliver the speed we need. In practice, this role involves directly making configuration changes on-site when required.
- Beyond the Cloud (Hybrid Expertise): Unlike pure cloud-native companies where physical infrastructure exposure is limited, our setup combines on-premises systems, networking, private networks, Linux, storage, public cloud, and SaaS. Developing expertise across both cloud and on-premises environments makes your skill set uniquely valuable in today’s market.
- Build & Shape Phase: You will do more than just maintain existing operations—you have the autonomy to rebuild, optimize, and improve the underlying systems and processes themselves.
- Powering AI & Robotics R&D: You will directly build and support the critical infrastructure that empowers AI researchers, robotics engineers, and software developers.
- Direct Ownership & Technical Depth: This is not a vendor-management-only role. You will have a hands-on environment where you can dive deep into network design and make direct configuration changes yourself.
- Full Ownership & Project Leadership: Beyond day-to-day operations, you will be expected to drive network projects from end to end and take full ownership of our network domain.
- Globally, there are few projects that collect data on such a large scale and develop foundation models, and as mentioned above, significant funding has been provided by NEDO. This is one of Japan’s leading national projects.
- This role offers a rare opportunity to engage directly, from the inside, at the core of a large-scale national project. It will allow you to gain unique experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
- In addition, there will be many opportunities to collaborate with supporting member companies and startups, providing an environment where you can explore diverse career opportunities both inside and outside the association.
- We currently operate out of a spacious office and research facility of over 1,000 m² located in the Ryutsu Center area. In this space, our business teams and engineering teams work in close collaboration, advancing both day-to-day operations and R&D with AI robots always close at hand. The facility is frequently visited not only by members of the AI Robot Association, but also by engineers and researchers from partner companies and representatives from member companies. As a result, it serves as a hub where diverse experts at the forefront of AI and robotics gather and interact.
- Today, highly skilled engineers and researchers from around the world are part of our organization. Some members have even relocated from overseas to Japan to join our projects on site. We aim to build a globally open R&D organization where diverse talent, regardless of nationality or background, come together, inspire one another, and shape the future.
