About the Role
This is a hands-on, individual contributor role where you will collaborate with other UX designers on initiatives aligned with evolving team priorities. You will manage multiple workstreams and work across different products, user groups, and problem areas as priorities shift. Your responsibilities will span the full design process, from understanding the problem to shipping the solution, including planning discovery studies, running usability tests, designing screens, and presenting findings.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct discovery research to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points.
- Design and run usability testing sessions to validate concepts and iterate on designs.
- Plan and facilitate surveys, workshops, and other participatory research methods to gather insights at scale.
- Synthesize research findings into actionable insights and communicate them clearly to product and engineering teams.
- Design end-to-end user experiences, covering information architecture, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity UI.
- Design interactions that are intuitive, accessible, and aligned with user needs and business objectives.
- Contribute to and maintain design systems, ensuring consistency across products.
- Balance user needs, technical constraints, and policy requirements when making design decisions.
- Present design work and research findings to a range of stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, and senior government leaders.
- Translate complex requirements and feedback into a clear design direction.
- Work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible and well-implemented.
- Build interactive prototypes to communicate design intent, using Figma prototypes.
- Utilize components and design system libraries within prototypes for consistency and efficiency.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of product design experience with a portfolio demonstrating strong user research skills alongside polished UX and UI work.
- Expertise in planning studies, choosing the right methods, facilitating sessions, and turning findings into design decisions.
- Strong UI and interaction design skills, capable of taking a concept from rough wireframes to production-ready designs.
- Comfort with ambiguity and context switching, able to move between different products and problem spaces quickly.
- Clear communication skills to articulate design rationale to technical and non-technical audiences and engage with senior stakeholders.
- User-centric mindset with pragmatism, balancing user needs with business goals, technical feasibility, and organizational constraints.
- Proficiency in Figma and FigJam as core design and collaboration tools.
- Familiarity with accessibility best practices (WCAG) and responsible AI design principles.
