About the Role
The Devices team builds Clever's integrations with student operating systems like iOS, macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build features across the stack, from backend services to native device clients, ensuring students can access learning apps quickly and securely.
Responsibilities
- Build features across the stack, from backend services to native device clients.
- Build device integrations that enable students to access learning apps quickly and securely.
- Develop integrations that IT admins can set up and manage without friction.
- Partner with Product and Design on features.
- Understand how integrations behave in real districts by working with IT admins and Customer Support.
- Mentor peers through code reviews and technical leadership.
- Drive work across native clients (Swift, C++) and the services behind them.
- Lead near-term projects including Platform SSO for macOS, Googlebooks login support, and Apple School Manager integration.
- Ensure features and integrations ship reliably and are adopted by districts.
- Write maintainable and well-tested code.
- Help the team keep the login systems schools rely on stable.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure the stability of critical login systems.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer.
- Strong foundation in software engineering principles.
- Device-centric experience.
- Professional experience building native applications for Windows, or supporting Windows environments.
- Experience with MDM platforms (Intune, Jamf), setting up and troubleshooting Entra/Azure environments, or integrating with Apple School Manager.
- Proven ability to lead complex projects from design to deployment.
- Effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience architecting end-to-end systems that solve complex product needs and handle diverse data requirements.
- Strong commitment to modular, extensible, testable code.
- Application of design patterns.
- Refactoring to pay down tech debt.
- Automation of tests (unit and end-to-end).
- Commitment to understanding and prioritizing Clever's engineering culture.

- For candidates living in the United States, besides NYC and San Francisco, CA, the range is between $140,000-$196,000.
- For candidates living in NYC and San Francisco, CA, the range is between $154,000-$215,000.
