About the Role
InfiniteChoice is building its next-generation platform on Google Cloud. As our Staff Platform Engineer, you'll be the senior technical owner of that infrastructure, including GKE clusters, Terraform, and traffic routing. You'll also build a self-service platform for developers and establish practices for efficient cloud footprint management. You will report to the Director of Engineering, CloudOps, and will set the technical direction for infrastructure while contributing to code.
Responsibilities
- Design and run the platform our product teams deploy onto, including templates, CI/CD, and GKE Gateway API routing.
- Define SLOs with service owners and use them to prioritize reliability work.
- Make architecture decisions for infrastructure and document them as ADRs.
- Review infrastructure changes across engineering and mentor other engineers.
- Plan capacity for clusters, databases, and caches, identify and eliminate waste, and manage GCP spend.
- Take ownership of GKE estate and Terraform, ensuring all production infrastructure changes go through code review and Atlantis.
- Structure the GCP organization by defining project layout, group-based IAM, and cost visibility.
- Ship initial self-service workflows for developers, starting with the most frequent ticket types.
- Turn the disaster recovery design into a regularly tested process.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and drive improvements in incident response, operational readiness, and post-incident follow-through.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in platform, SRE or infrastructure engineering, including ownership of production systems serving millions of requests a day.
- Deep hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production, ideally GKE.
- Strong Terraform experience, including structuring modules and state across many environments and GCP projects.
- Solid GCP experience across networking, IAM, and core services.
- Experience leading a migration of production workloads between platforms without downtime.
- Production code writing experience in Go, Python, or a similar language.
- Ability to read application code for debugging purposes.
- Ability to clearly explain technical tradeoffs in writing to both engineers and non-engineers.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- Industry certifications (Google Cloud Professional, SRE or related certifications preferred).
- Practical experience with AI coding tools and an understanding of their application in infrastructure work.
