About the Role

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Law Department seeks an experienced property specialist to join its Manhattan-based team. This crucial role bridges the gap between legal regulations and practical property operations, managing risks associated with large-scale assets and ensuring alignment with property ownership, operations, and jurisdiction. The specialist will assist in formulating legal opinions on title and property matters, and participate in depositions and testimony.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in advising on real property title matters and legal property documentation.
  • Prepare and revise Record Property Maps and legal exhibits using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Review agreements to determine property interests in litigated matters.
  • Calculate and produce technical data for legal descriptions supporting property acquisition and disposition.
  • Verify deed boundary closures, acreage, square footage, and property boundaries using mapping and geospatial tools.
  • Serve as CAD Manager, overseeing CAD software operations, equipment, and technical support.
  • Manage the centralized digital property records archive, including scanning, organizing, and maintaining electronic files.
  • Conduct in-house property title and deed research.
  • Retrieve and analyze tax maps, deeds, and property information using online databases and internal records.
  • Maintain and support specialized hardware and software, including plotters, printers, scanners, and mapping systems.
  • Testify in legal proceedings regarding property ownership, operation, and/or control.
  • Participate in depositions and provide testimony on behalf of the Port Authority.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or, alternatively, at least fifteen years’ relevant experience.
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in real estate and property-related matters within the legal field.
  • Educational major or concentrated studies in Surveying, Engineering, Architecture or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of producing via CAD and Adobe Acrobat (Surveys, Mapping, Lease Exhibits, Plotting/Printing Production).
  • Ability to work collectively and ethically, considering multiple stakeholder viewpoints and various client interests.
  • Ability to engage colleagues, internal clients and external contacts in a collegial and business-friendly manner.
  • Must meet all performance and attendance standards and have completed all probationary periods.

Salary/Compensations

  • Minimum: $100,256
  • Midpoint: $130,318
  • Maximum: $160,394
