About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Technician Supervisor to keep our workshop running smoothly and our customers on the road. This role involves working closely with the team to create high levels of morale and focus, ensuring work is completed in a timely manner and with excellence in quality. You will maximize the shift's performance through effective problem-solving, coaching, and development.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of HGV Technicians within the workshop.
  • Allocate and prioritize work to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Oversee servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Ensure all work is completed to manufacturer and company standards.
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety and workshop housekeeping.
  • Carry out quality checks and ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy before release.
  • Diagnose and assist with complex technical issues when required.
  • Monitor workshop productivity, efficiency, and job progress.
  • Liaise with service advisors, transport operators, customers, and other departments.
  • Support technician training, development, and performance.
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork, job cards, and maintenance records are completed accurately.
  • Promote a positive, professional, and safety-focused workshop environment.
  • Work closely with the team to create high levels of morale and focus.
  • Ensure work is completed in a timely manner and with excellence in quality.
  • Communicate effectively with the Workshop Controller and CSR’s to ensure technicians have valid job specifications and time budgets.
  • Manage customer expectations by working with each stage of the Genuine Volvo Service process.
  • Maximize the shift's performance through effective problem-solving, coaching, and development.

Requirements

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
  • Workshop experience – ideally in trucks/buses – with some supervisory know-how.
  • A strong communicator who can get the best out of a team.
  • Organized, proactive, and customer focused.
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence a big plus).
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team of technicians in their daily activities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work in an organized & methodical manner ensuring that all daily tasks are completed.
  • Ability to delegate work to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to operate GDS and Impact systems, specific to the GVS process stages.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
  • Experience across heavy vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic, or Commercial Vehicle Technician is relevant.
  • Transferable expertise from allied industries such as PSV Technician, PCV Mechanic, Bus and Coach Technician, or Heavy Plant Mechanic / Plant Technician is valued.
