About the Role
This engineering position involves the development, assembly, testing, and deployment of optical and computer vision-based measurement systems for product metrology, inspection, and testing. The role includes managing technology transfer from development to manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Define, develop, and implement optical and computer vision-based measurement and instrumentation systems in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Transfer technology from early-stage development to a manufacturing-ready product.
- Leverage external suppliers for key technologies and system integration.
- Define Scopes of Work, manage competitive quoting, issue Purchase Orders, track supplier work, and approve invoices.
- Design experiments and analyze data to improve measurement systems and production processes.
- Create and update documentation for production release, including Machine Specifications, operating procedures, and drawing packages.
- Train personnel on the use and maintenance of measurement systems.
- Provide remote and onsite troubleshooting using data and performance analysis of installed systems.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 3+ years of hands-on experience with machine vision and metrology equipment, or a PhD in one of these fields.
- Training or hands-on experience with vision systems is required.
- Ability to interact effectively with customers and coworkers.

Skills
- Optical measurements system development (optics, lighting, cameras, image acquisition, image analysis, laser, 3D measurement)
- Fundamental knowledge of physical optics
- Knowledge of image processing algorithms (blob analysis, edge finding, morphology, feature extraction, classification, metrology)
- Microsoft Visual Studio programming (C# and Python strongly preferred)
- Systems Engineering and integration
- Digital Signal Processing
- Experience with electrical/optical/mechanical installations, system checkout, and troubleshooting
- Strong communication and presentation skills (MS Office programs)
- Data retrieval, plotting, and analysis (primarily using Microsoft Excel)
- Experience with image processing development packages (e.g., Halcon, Matrox Inspector, NI Vision, Cognex, Keyence, Matlab image processing toolbox)
- Control systems (PLCs)
- Process engineering knowledge
- Experience with design of experiments, statistical analysis, and process improvement
- Experience with Metrology, Inspection, and Product Quality in support of manufacturing
- Motion Control – ability to integrate motion on imaging platforms
- Computing – Familiarity with high-performance computing systems
- 3D Transformation, Topography, and Registration – Experience with 3D transformations and processing of topography data (height maps, point clouds, surface meshes); ability to develop software for alignment, registration, error quantification, surface comparison, and automated 3D metrology/inspection.
- Machine Learning and Deep Learning – Familiarity with theory; experience designing and deploying models.
