About the Role

This role involves managing the day-to-day activities of the Environmental Services Department, resolving employee and workflow issues, and coordinating activities with other departments to meet customer needs. The position ensures all areas are cleaned to acceptable standards and manages employees according to union contracts and hospital policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Environmental Services staff to ensure all work is completed and staff are in assigned areas.
  • Revise daily assignments based on available and changing staffing.
  • Determine if work quality meets standards through daily rounds and quality assurance checks.
  • Problem-solve to resolve customer calls, complaints, and requests.
  • Interpret hospital/department policies and union contract to manage and approve employee activities.
  • Resolve employee disputes and work issues presented by staff.
  • Initiate and conduct all disciplinary actions/coachings required on the shift.
  • Complete and conduct performance evaluations for all employees on the shift in a timely manner.
  • Determine and coordinate training needs of all employees and ensure training requirements are met.
  • Interview and select employees for hire with the Department Director.
  • Conduct daily staff meetings.
  • Create and manage employee schedules; approve PTO, sick, and special time-off requests.
  • Review and revise written work assignments based on changing conditions.
  • Identify and initiate process improvements using Blue Belt techniques.
  • Propose and write department procedures.
  • Support and promote all hospital and department initiatives.
  • Notify Director and other supervisors of operational issues occurring during the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.

Requirements

  • Two years of broad customer service experience required.
  • Two years prior supervisory experience preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to conduct excellent customer service when dealing with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff.
