About the Role

The Field Service Technician, Level I is an entry-level technical position responsible for developing the knowledge and skills required to install, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair Coordinate Measuring Machines and related metrology equipment. Working under the guidance of senior technicians, the Field Service Technician completes formal and on-the-job training while supporting service activities at customer locations across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Complete required classroom, online, and on-the-job technical training.
  • Develop proficiency in the installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and related metrology equipment.
  • Build knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and computer-controlled systems.
  • Develop the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and service documentation.
  • Demonstrate continued progress toward the technical competencies and certifications required for the position.
  • Assist senior technicians with equipment installations, customer service calls, preventive maintenance, calibrations, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Perform assigned service activities under appropriate supervision and within the authorized scope of training.
  • Following completion of required training, independently complete assigned service activities in accordance with company procedures.
  • Diagnose basic mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and system-related issues.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior technicians or the appropriate technical support resource.
  • Inspect equipment, identify service requirements, and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Use company-approved tools, diagnostic equipment, and service procedures safely and effectively.
  • Provide professional, responsive, and solutions-focused support to customers.
  • Communicate service findings, equipment status, completed work, and required follow-up actions clearly and accurately.
  • Manage customer expectations by providing timely updates regarding service progress and next steps.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer locations and during all customer interactions.
  • Develop effective working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support the timely resolution of customer concerns by coordinating with the appropriate internal teams.
  • Complete service reports, work orders, calibration records, expense reports, and other required records accurately and on time.
  • Document equipment conditions, work performed, parts used, outstanding concerns, and recommended follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate records in applicable company systems.
  • Submit expenses and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and established timelines.
  • Protect confidential customer and company information.
  • Maintain assigned tools, diagnostic equipment, spare parts, and consumables in good working condition.
  • Manage assigned spare-parts and consumables inventory in accordance with company procedures and budget guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and report missing, damaged, or required replacement items.
  • Ensure tools, parts, and equipment are properly stored and secured.
  • Coordinate with service, deployment, receiving, and warehouse teams as required to support customer and operational needs.
  • Follow company health and safety requirements, quality standards, security protocols, and service procedures.
  • Comply with customer-site safety requirements and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, damaged equipment, and unsafe working conditions.
  • Operate company vehicles and material-handling equipment safely and in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • College diploma or university degree in electronics, electromechanical engineering technology, industrial mechanics, mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant technical training and practical work experience may be considered.
  • Previous experience installing, maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting industrial electronics, mechanical equipment, machinery, or computer-controlled systems is preferred.
  • Experience with CMMs, precision measurement systems, or industrial metrology equipment is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems is required.
  • Previous customer-service or field-service experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer aptitude.
  • Ability to learn technical concepts, equipment, software, and service procedures.
  • Basic diagnostic, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, drawings, and instructions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • $55,000 – $68,000
