About the Role
The Tunnel Shift Engineer provides engineering and technical support during night-shift tunnel construction activities, ensuring the safe and efficient execution of tunnelling works, coordination of field activities, and monitoring of progress and quality.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support to night-shift tunnel construction activities.
- Coordinate and monitor daily tunnelling operations and field activities.
- Review drawings, specifications, method statements, and work procedures.
- Monitor construction progress, productivity, and work fronts.
- Coordinate with supervisors, subcontractors, survey teams, and other disciplines.
- Identify technical issues and support timely resolution of field problems.
- Verify that construction activities comply with approved designs and project specifications.
- Support inspections, quality control, and documentation of completed works.
- Monitor quantities, production records, shift reports, and construction data.
- Prepare daily shift reports and communicate progress, issues, and constraints to the day-shift/project team.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, site inspections, and coordination meetings as required.
- Provide technical input into planning and sequencing of upcoming activities.
Requirements
- Experience in tunnel construction, underground construction, heavy civil, or major infrastructure projects.
- Experience working on night shifts or rotational construction shifts is an asset.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management systems.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is an asset.
