About the Role

We are hiring a senior Applied AI engineer to own the technical direction of our AI systems, including retrieval, generation, verification, and production maintenance. This role offers the opportunity to influence product strategy, technical hiring, and market positioning.

Responsibilities

Own the technical direction of AI systems: retrieval, generation, verification, and keeping systems running in production.
Influence product strategy, technical hiring, and market positioning.
Ensure high-craft output for pharma assets, maintaining visual and textual excellence.
Connect generated assets to real-world performance metrics to improve future output.
Develop offline metrics to track downstream MLR pass rates.
Ensure claim-level attribution and provenance preservation through generation.
Implement full CI/CD for ML, versioning, automated testing, and monitoring.
Maintain vigilance for ML system upgrades and tail risks.

Requirements

Experience shipping, operating, and maintaining ML/LLM systems in production.
History of inventing metrics to measure and improve systems.
Depth in LLMs: retrieval, agentic pipelines, targeted fine-tuning, and judgment on the best tool for each job.
Full-stack proficiency in Python, FastAPI, Docker, AWS.
Ability to take ideas from research to deployed service independently.
Confident decision-making amid unknowns; unafraid to be wrong and adjust fast.
Strong collaboration and feedback skills; direct and open style preferred.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

This role leads Toronto engineering, including a seat in engineering leadership and a direct hand in hiring and growing the team.
The Toronto office is in the same time zone as New York.
One of our co-founders will be in Toronto with the team.
We will move into our own Toronto office by the end of the year.
