About the Role
Union College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in French and Francophone Studies with a focus on Digital Humanities, beginning September 1, 2027. The role involves teaching at all levels of French language instruction, offering upper-level courses, and potentially leading the term abroad program to France. The position emphasizes innovative scholarship and engagement with rigorous research questions.
Responsibilities
- Teach French classes at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels.
- Teach other courses in French and in English.
- Lead co-curricular programming, such as language tables and cultural events.
- Offer courses that contribute to the College’s Complex Questions curriculum.
- Exhibit promise for innovative, active scholarship with broad and deep engagement with rigorous, creative research questions.
- Teach 2 courses per 10-week trimester, totaling 6 courses per academic year.
Requirements
- Native or near-native fluency in French is required.
- Ph.D. must be in hand or near completion by September 2027.
- Demonstrated excellence at all levels of language instruction.
- Potential to teach upper-level courses in French and/or translation courses that contribute to the College’s Interdisciplinary Programs.
- Interest in leading the term abroad program to France.
- Interest in teaching that makes use of linguistic and cultural materials related to multiple aspects of the French and Francophone worlds.
