About the Role

Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, including casting, bracing, and performing other duties as assigned. Provides information to patients to ensure they fully utilize clinic services and conveys a positive image of the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physician with treating patients as directed.
  • Prepares injections, takes vital signs, completes H&P questionnaire, and facilitates suture removals/dressing changes.
  • Applies casts, splints, and DME as needed to maintain clinic flow.
  • Issues prescriptions, physical therapy orders, home exercises, work restrictions, diagnostic orders, and other orders per physician instruction.
  • Assists in patient education.
  • Maintains a timely and safe clinic focused on efficient care, respecting patient privacy and dignity.
  • Ensures clinic runs efficiently.
  • Prepares exam rooms, instruments, and linens; performs sharps container checks.
  • Works closely with staff in the assigned musculoskeletal team to ensure quality patient care and services.
  • Ensures compliance with clinic standards of quality patient care.
  • Assists physician with completion of procedure and diagnosis coding of encounter forms.
  • Reviews daily schedule, new patients, follow-up, time allowed, and meeting times.
  • Assists physician with clinic flow to ensure attendance at meetings.
  • Works with the Office Manager to coordinate schedules according to physician requirements.
  • Ensures required medical records are available for appointments.
  • Documents all patient-related communication or treatment in EMR.
  • Facilitates triage tasks and scheduled drugs via ECPS or triplicates with physician.
  • Reviews and facilitates physician’s communication folder and electronic tasks daily.
  • Assists the physician in reviewing no-show and cancellation patients and takes appropriate action.
  • Maintains supplies and restocks rooms on a prescribed schedule.
  • Sterilizes instruments on a prescribed schedule.
  • Functions as a responsible designated tech according to guidelines.
  • Attends continued education and skill labs.
  • Assists with Phlebotomy if certified.
  • Tracks and completes patient FMLA forms timely.
  • Works non-assigned physician clinics as scheduled.
  • Assists with completion of physician responses to electronic communication to provide resolution for patient inquiries.
  • Assists with obtaining prior-authorizations for diagnostic studies and viscosupplementation injections.
  • Assists in answering inbound patient calls regarding clinical needs.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Travels to other locations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in a health care setting, preferably orthopedics.
  • Must possess outstanding interpersonal skills and be capable of communicating with physicians, staff, and outside consultants.
  • Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements, including OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications, including EMR.
  • Ability to walk frequently and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Must have full range of motion.
  • Must have adequate visual acuity to read and interpret written material.
  • Must have adequate hearing and speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others.
