About the Role
Reporting to the EVP, Enterprise Growth & Social Ventures, the Director, People & Culture provides strategic leadership for Habitat for Humanity GTA's people and culture and workplace safety functions. The Director develops and executes an integrated people strategy that supports organizational growth, strengthens workforce capability, and advances Habitat GTA's mission, values, and strategic priorities. As a trusted advisor to the Executive Team and people leaders, the Director oversees all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, engagement, development, performance, compensation, employee relations, and organizational effectiveness. The role also leads Habitat GTA's Health & Safety program, fostering a culture where safety, inclusion, and employee well-being are embedded in how the organization operates. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement People & Culture and Health & Safety strategies aligned with Habitat GTA's strategic plan and growth objectives.
- Partner with the Executive Team to integrate people and workplace considerations into organizational planning and decision-making.
- Champion Habitat GTA's Guiding Principles, Enduring Leadership Principles, and employer value proposition, contributing to the development of a highly engaged, safe, and empowered workforce.
- Lead and develop the People & Culture team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, responsive support to leaders and employees.
- Actively enhance People & Culture programs, policies, processes, and systems to support organizational effectiveness, employee experience, and compliance.
- Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on employee relations, leadership effectiveness, and workforce management.
- Lead and evolve talent acquisition, onboarding, talent management, succession planning, performance management, and leadership development processes.
- Identify and address organizational learning and development needs to build capability and support future growth.
- Oversee total rewards programs to ensure they remain competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, workplace policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the People & Culture budget and provide strategic guidance on workforce and labour expenditures.
- Lead the organization's Health & Safety program and reinforce Habitat GTA's "Build Safe. Work Safe. Live Safe." culture.
- Embed Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging principles across all People & Culture practices and initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and postgraduate studies or specialized training in Human Resources.
- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation, or actively pursuing designation, preferred.
- Minimum ten years of progressive People & Culture/Human Resources experience, including leadership responsibility for a broad range of human resources functions and accountability for leading and developing a People & Culture team.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing people strategies that support organizational growth, workforce effectiveness, and employee engagement.
- Broad functional experience across the full employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, leadership development, succession planning, compensation and benefits, workforce planning, and organizational development.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing sound counsel on complex people matters and influencing decision-making through strong business acumen and relationship-building skills.
- Experience leading organizational change, building leadership capability, and successfully implementing people programs, policies, and initiatives that deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Strong understanding of employment legislation, human rights, workplace investigations, occupational health and safety requirements, and human resources best practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive workplace cultures and embedding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging principles into people practices, programs, and decision-making.
- Exceptional communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility and partnerships at all levels of the organization.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to balance strategic priorities and operational demands in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, discretion, and integrity when managing confidential and sensitive matters.
- Passion for Habitat GTA's mission and a commitment to creating an environment where employees, volunteers, and leaders can thrive.
