About the Role
Claim Specialists within the Law Department’s Litigation Support Division assist City agencies in complying with discovery obligations in litigation. This role requires proactive management of record requests using manual and computerized systems, and collaboration with internal and external staff for efficient task management.
Responsibilities
- Conducting searches for records maintained in the ordinary course of the specific agency’s business.
- Managing a caseload of varying size pertaining to claims made against the City of New York and specific agencies.
- Monitoring all court due dates.
- Ensuring that located and produced records are legally and factually accurate to the claims presented.
- Working on larger projects as necessary, following process outlines and providing responses in accordance with project structure.
- Expanding responsibilities to include management of other staff as necessary with experience.
Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
- An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time satisfactory experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss.
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of full-time satisfactory experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss.
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications.
- College education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of required experience.
- All candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
