About the Role

The Medical Assistant provides assistance to licensed medical providers in clinic and surgical settings, delivering safe, knowledgeable, and compassionate individualized patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatment.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Prepare patients for physician examination by showing them to appropriate rooms.
  • Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics, and test results in medical records.
  • Ensure proper consent forms are obtained prior to preparing a patient for treatment.
  • Administer medications as directed by a physician, following safety protocols.
  • Collect, log, and prepare laboratory specimens for testing.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, wound care, and physician instructions to patients.
  • Assist physicians with patient examinations and treatments, including giving injections and removing sutures.
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies under provider direction.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Maintain sterile fields during surgical procedures.
  • Assess patient condition during exams, procedures, or surgeries and notify the physician of any distress.
  • Clean rooms and medical equipment between patients and at the end of the day.
  • Dispose of infectious waste and biohazard materials correctly.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Change wound dressings.
  • Greet patients arriving at the office or clinic.
  • Schedule patient tests and admissions with medical facilities.
  • Maintain inventory of instruments, supplies, and equipment, and keep rooms stocked.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
  • Accurately document all procedures in a timely manner.
  • Respond to emergency situations based on nursing standards and protocols.
  • Assist physicians in medical emergencies for patients, employees, or visitors.
  • Inventory and order medical emergency supplies monthly and ensure equipment is functional.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures while supporting a culture of high quality and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the organization.

  • One (1)+ year experience in a medical setting, preferred.
