About the Role

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join our Structural Engineering team. Our structural engineers design systems for buildings, foundations, and earth retention for various construction types, utilizing a range of materials including steel, concrete, mass timber, wood, light gauge, and masonry. Project Engineers will perform calculations, modeling, detailing, and specifications, consulting with Project Managers and potentially interacting with design architects to resolve issues and coordinate drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Become knowledgeable with CED systems for structural calculations, structural drawings and construction administration.
  • Compile and modify General Notes sections from CED template.
  • Perform routine structural calculations by hand and with design programs to develop familiarity with material codes and CED resources.
  • Review and modify typical detail templates as applicable for each project.
  • Draw custom details as required for projects.
  • Review structural drawings for foundation and framing layout, coordination with Architectural drawings and inclusion of standard notes and details.
  • Ensure structural drawings meet CED standards.
  • Redline structural drawings for drafting technicians.
  • Prepare calculation and drawing packages for review by Project Managers.
  • Review construction material submittmits and shop drawings for conformance.
  • Respond to construction Requests For Information (RFIs) and provide solutions to field issues.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional building structural engineering experience required.
  • P.E. required.
  • Possess an intermediate to advanced understanding of structural design software such RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, SAFE, PROFIS, etc. with a willingness to learn and adapt to new software.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new software and client needs.
  • Understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles.
  • Light gauge experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current building and material design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE7, AISC360, ACI318, ACI 530 or NDS.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Able to work independently and also collaboratively on a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
