About the Role

We are seeking a Communications Assistant to raise More in Common’s profile and elevate our communications strategy. This role involves supporting proactive media outreach, translating research into compelling content, and disseminating findings to key audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Translate research into concise, media-friendly insights, including drafting press releases and pitching stories.
  • Write compelling content for blog, newsletter, podcast, and social media channels.
  • Promote the Opinion Brief newsletter and podcast to achieve subscriber growth targets.
  • Expand the media network by building new journalist relationships and maintaining mailing lists.
  • Build a long-term media grid, anticipating news cycle moments and feeding ideas into weekly polls for rapid response.
  • Craft compelling stories from quantitative and qualitative data, identifying key statistics and trends for media interest.
  • Experiment with paid online advertising to increase profile and generate new business.
  • Update website content to showcase research and insights.
  • Write first drafts of quotes for media, op-eds, speeches, and external briefings.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop communications strategy and identify key performance indicators.
  • Play an active role across core research, partnership, client work, and events, contributing to a start-up culture environment.

Requirements

  • A strong interest in media and communications.
  • Strong attention to detail, even when working at a fast pace.
  • Diligence in fact-checking and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write clear, compelling content for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with analyzing data and transforming it into compelling stories.
  • A can-do attitude, with the ability to work both responsively and proactively at pace.
  • A keen interest in and genuine enthusiasm for UK politics and public opinion.
  • The ability to manage and prioritize multiple competing demands from different people and projects.
  • A CV.
  • A short cover letter (max. one page).
  • A separate Word document with a short piece (around 200 words) predicting UK politics in 2027 and explaining its significance.
