About the Role

The Unit Aide provides compassionate patient care to mother baby couplets under the direction of a registered nurse. This role involves direct patient care, assisting with daily living activities, and preparing surgical suites for cesarean births. Responsibilities also include maintaining medical records, transcribing orders, and managing patient communications.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Assists with activities of daily living and delegated patient care treatments.
  • Assists with ambulation and turning of patients to promote comfort.
  • Prepares the surgical suite prior to cesarean births and supports the SST and circulating RN.
  • Maintains medical records, transcribes orders, answers telephones, and takes messages.
  • Makes follow-up appointments upon patient discharge (in applicable departments).
  • Orders Durable Medical Equipment (in applicable departments).
  • Assists with data entry, provider charges, supply ordering, and insurance follow-up (in applicable departments).
  • Ensures knowledge in the use of cleaning/sterilization/disinfection of equipment and instrumentation.

Requirements

  • High school level of knowledge.
  • Previous experience, nursing student or graduate from a nursing assistant program.
  • Previous Maternity and/or medical surgical experience preferred.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, possess tact, discretion and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work under stress and complete duties sometimes with numerous interruptions.
  • Must be able to write legibly and document accurately the type of care given.
  • Must be able to communicate information to supervisor and co-workers.
  • May need to work beyond scheduled hours when necessary.
  • Must be familiar with equipment used to move patients, take vital signs and document.
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
