About the Role

This role is for an Industrial Machine Repair Skilled Trades position, responsible for keeping complex machinery running in an engineering test lab environment. You will increase equipment availability by troubleshooting, repairing, assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems so production equipment stays capable and ready when the operation needs it.

Responsibilities

  • Increase equipment availability by troubleshooting, repairing, assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems.
  • Strengthen workplace safety by stopping unsafe work, reporting hazards immediately, using proper PPE, and helping build an interdependent safety culture.
  • Elevate workmanship and quality by applying high standards of craftsmanship, following diagrams and specifications precisely, performing quality inspections, and raising issues early.
  • Reduce downtime and improve reliability by supporting failure analysis, documenting preventive and corrective maintenance, and providing feedback.
  • Enhance operational efficiency by scheduling maintenance around production needs, identifying and reducing manufacturing constraints, and keeping work areas clean and organized.
  • Develop team capability by instructing and coaching less-experienced team members and serving as an informal technical resource.
  • Drive continuous improvement by solving problems collaboratively, improving processes, and participating actively in TPM initiatives.
  • Grow technical and professional strength by completing required training and adapting to new tasks and technologies.
  • Maintain and repair industrial machines (both scheduled PMs and emergency fixes).
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Work across multiple systems: mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and some electrical.
  • Support all labs within Jamestown Technical Center organization.

Requirements

  • Collaborative mindset — Build strong working relationships with peers, support teams, and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to manage complexity — Break down high-volume, fast-moving, and sometimes conflicting information.
  • Proactive health & safety habits — Model safe behaviors, identify hazards early, report issues immediately, and help create an interdependent safety culture.
  • Controls-safety awareness — Understand electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic hazards well enough to incorporate safe practices into every task.
  • Strong manufacturing knowledge — Understand processes, equipment, and applications well enough to implement changes correctly.
  • Technical discipline — Follow procedures, diagrams, and specifications precisely.
  • Structured problem-solving skills — Use systematic methods to identify root causes and implement durable solutions.
  • Adaptability and continuous learning — Stay open to new tools, technologies, and evolving work demands.
  • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
  • This is not a light-duty role.
  • You’ll be on your feet, hands-on, and often responding to urgent breakdowns.
  • You’ll need broad mechanical knowledge, not just one specialty.
  • It’s a mix of reactive (fix it now) and proactive (prevent it later) work.
  • This is a broad, jack-of-all-trades mechanical role—not specialized in just one system.
