About the Role
The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is hiring law students for an internship with its Liberty and National Security Program (LNS) in New York and Washington, DC for Summer 2027. The LNS Program focuses on advancing national security policies that uphold the rule of law and constitutional values. Interns will contribute to policy advocacy, research, and litigation initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assist with legal, policy, and factual research for administrative and legislative advocacy at federal, state, and local levels.
- Contribute to public education and scholarship efforts.
- Support litigation in trial and appellate courts.
- Conduct legal research and writing for amicus briefs, policy reports, and other advocacy documents.
- Draft communications to legislators.
- Assist with public comments to federal agencies.
- Attend coalition meetings.
- Draft website posts for the Brennan Center.
Requirements
- Must be a law student in Summer 2027.
- Excellent legal research, analysis, and writing skills.
- Demonstrate initiative, imagination, and versatility.
- Possess a passion for the Brennan Center's issues.
- Must submit a cover letter, law school transcript, legal writing sample (5-10 pages), resume, and contact information for three supervisor references.
