About the Role
The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is hiring law students to intern with its Liberty and National Security Program (LNS) for the summer of 2027. The LNS Program focuses on advancing national security policies that uphold the rule of law and constitutional values, addressing priorities such as checking executive power, reforming emergency powers, ending profiling, strengthening digital age protections, and enhancing agency accountability.
Responsibilities
- Assist with legal, policy, and factual research for administrative and legislative advocacy at federal, state, and local levels.
- Support public education and scholarship initiatives.
- Contribute to litigation in trial and appellate courts.
- Conduct legal research and writing for amicus briefs, policy reports, and other advocacy documents.
- Draft communications to legislators.
- Assist with public comments to federal agencies.
- Attend coalition meetings.
- Draft website posts for the Brennan Center.
Requirements
- Excellent legal research, analysis, and writing skills.
- Initiative, imagination, and versatility.
- Passion for the Brennan Center's issues.
- Must be a law student in Summer 2027.
- Cover letter explaining interest in Liberty & National Security policy issues.
- Current law school transcript.
- Legal writing sample (5-10 pages).
- Current resume.
- Contact information for three supervisor references.
