About the Role

We are hiring our first construction lead to define how we build utility-scale energy projects. This is a hands-on role where you will manage EPC/GC partners closely to ensure projects move at our pace, not the industry's. You will define our build culture, including how we organize, what we own directly, and where we partner. We are building a model that contrasts with traditional contract management, focusing on small, competent teams owning the outcome end-to-end with rapid decision-making and deliberate risk-taking for schedule acceleration. This is an opportunity to build a construction department and playbook from scratch, with a focus on automation.

Responsibilities

  • Define how the company builds utility-scale energy projects.
  • Find the right EPC/GC partners for projects.
  • Manage EPC/GC partners closely to ensure projects move at the company's pace.
  • Be deeply involved in every project, defining build culture.
  • Determine how the company organizes itself to build.
  • Decide what the company owns directly.
  • Identify areas where the company partners with others.
  • Implement a model of small, highly competent teams owning the outcome end-to-end.
  • Ensure engineering, procurement, and construction are on one plan and schedule.
  • Facilitate rapid decision-making by people closest to the work.
  • Take deliberate risks to buy schedule.
  • Identify repetitive tasks for potential automation with AI.

Requirements

  • Responsible leadership on multiple large capital projects that were actually built, from groundbreaking through energization.
  • An engineer by background.
  • A builder at heart: lead from the front, be on site, and be hands-on when it counts.
  • Frustrated by the slow pace and bureaucracy of the construction industry.
  • Understand how EPCs and GCs operate to select the right partners and hold them to schedule.
  • Mission alignment and desire to build a future of abundance.
  • Experience in responsible leadership on multiple large capital projects (utility-scale energy, gas generation, data centers, or comparable heavy industrial work).
