About the Role

Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by providing innovative and reliable technology products and services. This role focuses on developing, operating, and automating Schwab’s enterprise API gateway platform powered by Google Apigee, driving secure, scalable, and reliable API-first solutions across the firm. You will collaborate with various teams to improve developer experience, accelerate cloud-native adoption, strengthen platform resiliency, and enable critical business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, operate, and automate Schwab’s enterprise API gateway platform powered by Google Apigee.
  • Drive secure, scalable, and reliable API-first solutions across the firm.
  • Collaborate with application, security, infrastructure, and platform teams.
  • Improve developer experience.
  • Accelerate cloud-native adoption.
  • Strengthen platform resiliency.
  • Enable critical business outcomes.
  • Leverage automation and AI-assisted engineering practices to improve productivity and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience in backend development, middleware, or API integration platforms.
  • Experience building and operating API gateway or integration platforms (Google Apigee preferred, or equivalent such as MuleSoft, Kong, or AWS API Gateway).
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve software delivery, engineering productivity, and code quality.
  • Understanding of AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC) practices and intelligent automation concepts.
  • Strong proficiency with Java, .NET, or Python for backend services and microservices development.
  • Experience with Angular, JavaScript, REST APIs, and developer portal technologies.
  • Experience implementing API security controls including OAuth 2.0, mTLS, certificate-based authentication, rate limiting, and threat protection.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using tools such as Maven, GitHub Actions, or equivalent technologies.
  • Understanding of TLS/SSL, certificate management, DNS, load balancing, and network security fundamentals.
  • Experience implementing observability, monitoring, alerting, and production support practices.
  • Experience applying Test-Driven Development (TDD), including unit, integration, and contract testing.
  • Demonstrated communication, collaboration, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills within Agile environments.
