About the Role

The Generative AI Artist creates images and sequences to support all project stages, including visual direction, pitches, previs, IP development, and final shots. This role extends the capabilities of compositing, 3D, real-time, and art direction teams by exploring creative directions earlier and delivering production-ready imagery. It requires a strong creative eye and technical rigor within the Toronto Ads, Post & AI department.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain ComfyUI workflows, combining multiple models.
  • Train LoRAs on image and video models and prepare datasets.
  • Test new models methodically and select the appropriate tool.
  • Deliver professional-quality visuals quickly and consistently.
  • Generate visual directions, lookframes, key visuals, animatics, and final shots.
  • Think in cinematic terms, considering framing, lens choice, lighting, camera movement, and editing rhythm.
  • Use AI to explore, iterate, and propose creative possibilities.
  • Ensure images support the story, visual language, and project consistency.
  • Maintain consistency of characters, products, and visual worlds across shots.
  • Ensure work is reproducible by saving workflows and documenting model versions.
  • Deliver outputs in formats usable by compositing, 3D, and finishing teams.
  • Use live-action plates, on-set capture, or mocap data to guide generation.
  • Explore generative 3D techniques like Gaussian Splatting and image-to-3D.
  • Track and report credit and compute usage.
  • Collaborate with art directors, supervisors, producers, and artists.
  • Clearly explain AI capabilities, limitations, and costs to producers and clients.
  • Be comfortable stating when AI is not the right solution.
  • Respect copyright, consent requirements, and commercial licensing terms.
  • Protect the confidentiality of client materials.
  • Stay current with advancements in generative AI.
  • Document methods and contribute to the internal library of workflows and references.
  • Train artists from other departments and contribute to the AI culture.

Requirements

  • Portfolio demonstrating strong taste and visual judgment, including composition, lighting, style, and storytelling.
  • Artistic background in illustration, photography, concept art, compositing, motion design, cinematography, or a related discipline.
  • Strong proficiency with ComfyUI and the ability to build custom workflows and graphs.
  • Experience training LoRAs and preparing datasets.
  • Proficiency with at least two video-generation models and several image-generation models.
