About the Role
S:US is seeking a Residential Specialist for their families with children shelter located in the Bronx. This position is responsible for providing a warm, compassionate welcome to new shelter residents, promoting person-centered services, and supporting resident independence. The role requires managing primary coverage in the building 24/7 and using independent judgment to ensure resident and building safety. The ideal candidate will possess character, humility, integrity, and communicate skillfully with empathy and honesty.
Responsibilities
- Providing a warm, compassionate welcome to new shelter residents.
- Promoting person-centered services.
- Supporting the independence of the people served.
- Managing primary coverage in the building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- Functioning independently using judgment to guarantee the safety of the people served and the building.
Requirements
- F02 certification required.
- Security license required.
- Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens into your work.
- Use neutral and non-judgmental language when responding to the needs and requests of residents.
- Must have the ability to be flexible with schedule as needed.
- Ability to maintain professional maturity during crisis situations.
- Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of homelessness, substance misuse and harm reduction.
- Demonstrated experience working with disenfranchised communities including whom identify LGBQT, HIV/AIDs affected, the elderly and individuals with mental health and developmental disabilities.
Skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer-based programs.
- Typing skills.
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Naloxone certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Bilingual communication preferred.
- Food Handler license preferred.
