About the Role

Under guidance, this role oversees and coordinates daily activities within the research laboratory. It assists scientists with laboratory and investigative procedures and may involve working with animal models and/or human subjects.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, recommends, and develops new techniques to enhance laboratory efficiency.
  • Writes/amends laboratory operating protocols and implements new technology.
  • Ensures laboratory quality assurance goals and standards are met, evaluating quality control trends and implementing corrective actions.
  • Designs and conducts experiments, analyzing and interpreting results to inform future designs.
  • Conducts library research and literature searches, assisting in editing scientific publications, abstracts, and posters.
  • Audits and screens vendors/suppliers for product and equipment quality, corresponding for technical support.
  • Performs tissue & cell culture activities.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed records, logs, and summary reports of procedures and results, including graphs, scientific calculations, and statistical analysis.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents, potentially ordering or escalating needs, and receiving/confirming orders.
  • Ensures a clean working area and washes/stores glassware.
  • Ensures safe laboratory practices, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel and may provide working supervision to junior staff.
  • Performs animal husbandry, genotyping, surgeries, post-operative care, behavioral testing, sectioning, and histology.
  • Performs routine molecular biology laboratory procedures such as PCR, protein and DNA electrophoresis, cloning, and DNA preparation.
  • Runs routine biochemistry assays including western blotting and RT-PCR.
  • Performs microscopic imaging analyses.
  • Manages the receipt, storage, cataloging, and shipment of samples.

Requirements

  • Approximately 3-5 years of related work experience within a laboratory.
