  • Lead the technical design of initiatives spanning multiple systems, codebases, and teams.
  • Guide architectural decisions to improve reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Proactively identify systemic issues, architectural gaps, and technical risks.
  • Partner with stakeholders to clarify technical tradeoffs, surface risks, and balance delivery with system health.
  • Raise the technical capabilities of the team through mentorship, design guidance, and feedback.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years building or maintaining real-time simulation, game-server, distributed, or complex production systems.

  • Experience designing, evolving, and operating reliable services across multiple codebases and technical domains.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, containerized services, asynchronous network programming, and Python or shell scripting.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve difficult production issues.
  • Demonstrated Staff-level technical leadership: navigating ambiguous problems, making sound engineering decisions, influencing technical direction, and communicating designs, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Collaborative approach to technical leadership, including mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards.
  • Experience with interpreters, virtual machines, embedded scripting engines, bytecode runtimes, sandboxed execution, APIs, or long-term serialization formats is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with virtual worlds, MMO or game-server architecture, Second Life, LSL, or Lua is a plus.
  • On-call responsibilities are performed remotely.
  • Must be able to perform focused, computer-based tasks and collaborate effectively in a dynamic, in-office environment.
