About the Role
Fullbay's Lead Data Engineer will own the company's data platform end-to-end, including architecture, hands-on building, and setting standards. This role is crucial for enabling trustworthy self-service data access for business users and AI agents through certified metric definitions, a governed semantic layer, and disciplined platform standards. The position reports directly to the VP of IT with the charter to set data standards company-wide.
Responsibilities
- Own metric and entity definitions for company-wide reporting and serve as the final arbiter for disagreements.
- Keep documentation current so business users can find answers without assistance.
- Build and extend Fullbay’s gold layer using SQL and transformation code in version control with automated tests.
- Own identity resolution across Classic, Next, and Salesforce platforms, including crosswalk logic, survivorship rules, and platform-of-record determination.
- Own Snowflake's role hierarchy, grants, row access and masking policies, warehouse sizing, and cost attribution.
- Design curated access paths for AI agents as first-class data consumers.
- Onboard new data sources following documented patterns, manage schema drift and deletion detection, and partner with engineering on source schema changes.
- Scope and direct the work of the retained architecture consultant, including writing specs and reviewing deliverables.
- Provide guidance and office hours for business users and AI builders to self-serve against the data platform.
- Treat documentation as a core deliverable, serving as the company's continuity plan for this function.
- Adhere to all confidentiality and compliance regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 7+ years of data engineering experience, including demonstrated ownership of a production data platform.
- Deep dimensional modeling experience: able to declare a grain, defend historization choices, and articulate a restatement policy.
- Experience with Snowflake (or a comparable cloud data warehouse) beyond SQL, including warehouse strategy, cost management, RBAC, and environment design.
- Experience building transformations as version-controlled code with automated tests and CI.
- Experience with change data capture and incremental extraction from application databases.
- Experience with entity resolution across systems with independent identifiers.
Skills
- Comfortable being the only person who knows how something works, and documents accordingly.
- Willing to say no to a vendor, an app team, or an executive, and ability to explain why.
- Strong written communication skills; able to arbitrate cross-functional definitional disagreements clearly and diplomatically.
- Experience serving AI or programmatic consumers of data (nice to have).
- Familiarity with the Salesforce object model (nice to have).
- Prior experience as a company’s first data hire (nice to have).
- Prior experience directing outside vendors (nice to have).
