About the Role

This role is responsible for responding to emergency calls, providing medical care in pre-hospital settings, and ensuring patient safety during transport. The position requires adherence to departmental and hospital policies, as well as regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
  • Receives emergency calls and promptly responds to assignments.
  • Ensures the safety of the patient and other pre-hospital personnel.
  • Performs medical histories and physical exams on patients in the field.
  • Initiates indicated treatment modalities according to policies and medical control orders.
  • Provides direct patient care from first contact through authorized hand-off.
  • Remains on duty until properly relieved or released by supervision.
  • Accompanies the patient to the ED and monitors/treats during transportation.
  • Transports the patient to the appropriate emergency department and reports to staff.
  • Writes comprehensive reports documenting the situation, exam, treatments, and response.
  • Maintains ambulance logs and submits required incident/accident reports.
  • Operates the vehicle and equipment safely, safeguarding all equipment.
  • Maintains vehicles and equipment in efficient working order, performing minor repairs and restocking.
  • Wears issued uniform and maintains a professional appearance.
  • Maintains radio contact with FDNY and remains in assigned CSL when not on assignment.
  • Complies with department vehicle in-service standards.
  • Follows NYSDOH and FDNY Rules, Regulations, and Protocols.
  • Performs heavy and awkward lifting of patients in difficult areas.
  • Remains Awake, Alert, and acknowledges radio and CAD assignments promptly.

Requirements

  • Four year high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of training program as an NYSDOH Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Completion of other protocol update programs as currently required.
  • 1+ years 911 experience preferred.
  • Certification as a NYS EMT.
  • Tri-State issued driver's license with infraction-free driving abstract.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operators Course completion desirable.

Education Level

  • Four year high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of training program as an NYSDOH Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Completion of other protocol update programs as currently required.
  • Certification as a NYS EMT.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operators Course completion desirable.

Salary/Compensations

  • $33.54 - $39.97 Hourly
