About the Role
The UK Controller – Consulting is responsible for a wide range of controllership activities for the Consulting UK businesses, including month-end close coordination, project-related activities, acquisition integration, and financial analysis support. This leadership role oversees US and Local GAAP reporting, local statutory and regulatory reporting, and ensures a strong control environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the month-end close process.
- Manage all project-related activities.
- Oversee the integration of acquisitions.
- Provide financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Ensure a strong control environment through implementation, design, and monitoring of controls.
- Prepare and manage all controller operations within Consulting UK.
- Provide and oversee financial information for Marsh People and Investments and Marsh Management Consulting.
- Oversee US and Local GAAP reporting.
- Oversee local statutory and regulatory reporting for relevant Operating Companies.
- Ensure company’s internal controls and financial compliance responsibilities are met.
- Ensure financial results for local legal entities are accurate.
- Oversee and responsible for the preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting activities in accordance with US GAAP.
- Provide insightful analysis to support accounting judgments and business decisions.
- Support the implementation of new accounting standards in line with Group plans.
- Manage the application of accounting policies and preparation of papers to support financial accounting decisions.
- Manage key stakeholders who rely on the finance processes and reported numbers.
- Ensure key stakeholders are aware of any changes to processes or accounting policy and communicate the impact.
- Manage external auditor relationships, including liaison regarding audit timetable, deliverables to Audit Committee, fees and accounting issues.
- Sign the quarterly management representation letter.
- Attend Audit Committees as and when required.
- Ensure all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control issues are reported and remediated on a timely basis.
- Ensure the business operates in a SOX compliant manner.
- Ensure the integrity of financial controls across Consulting functions.
- Ensure sound controls operate around the financial result.
- Ensure that authority matrices for transactions are appropriate, understood and followed.
- Ensure that the Balance Sheet is reviewed and fairly stated on at least a quarter end basis.
- Provide strong proactive management for the team, including development and mentoring.
- Support wider team initiatives.
- Provide assistance with project-based work, including due diligence review of potential acquisitions/disposals, integration of acquisitions, system implementations, assessing accounting implications of new business projects and capital expenditure, entity elimination projects, control projects, and execution of global/regional strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or similar discipline required.
- Qualified Accountant preferably ACA; ACCA or ACMA.
- Significant experience within finance controllership.
- Several years of management responsibilities within a large matrixed organization.
- Experience with fiduciary management / OCIO / investment consulting business highly preferred.
- Ability to lead and drive change within a transforming, acquisitive and matrixed organization.
- Ability to streamline and standardize financial activities and procedures to improve efficiency.
- Understanding of Oracle Financials: GL and Hyperion Essbase.
