About the Role

The Nutrition Care Representative (NCR) is responsible for assisting patients with menu selection, ensuring they receive meals and nourishment according to diet prescriptions and preferences. Duties include patient screening, taking food orders, updating patient information, correcting menu choices, and serving trays. The NCR also handles clerical duties related to patient meal service and alerts clinical staff to patient care issues.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with menu selection via room service calls or bedside order entry.
  • Ensure patients receive meals and nourishment in accordance with diet prescriptions and individual preferences.
  • Perform patient initial screening by NFS.
  • Take food orders.
  • Update patient information using GemServe.
  • Correct menu choices under supervision using dietary guidelines.
  • Alert clinical nutrition staff and/or supervision to any patient care issues.
  • Serve patient trays and nourishments.
  • Refill floor stocks.
  • Perform other clerical duties related to patient meal service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Dual enrollment in college and high school with college-level coursework including basic nutrition, basic food science, and diet therapy preferred.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Legible handwriting required.
  • Superior communication skills in phone etiquette and customer service required.
  • Ability to handle all food products safely required.
  • Basic knowledge of nutrition diet concepts and ability to explain these to patients and families required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in healthcare food service or in a direct patient care role.
  • Equivalent college coursework in clinical nutrition, practical nutrition, or nutrition therapy may substitute for work experience.
  • Six months of work as a CVMC Food Service Worker III, Diet Aide or Host demonstrating all proficiency stated above is also qualifying experience.
