About the Role
The Family & Community Engagement (FACE) Manager builds meaningful connections between Coney Island Prep, its families, and the broader Coney Island community. This role focuses on strengthening family engagement, supporting student recruitment and enrollment, and building partnerships. The FACE Manager will utilize community and enrollment data to shape strategies and foster a strong school community, ultimately supporting the mission of preparing scholars for college and career success. This position is based in the network office in Coney Island, Brooklyn, and reports to the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment. While there are no direct reports, the role involves managing processes and systems with a focus on operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community by understanding and addressing individual needs.
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for families throughout recruitment, enrollment, and registration.
- Engage with current and prospective families at campus and community events to strengthen community, recruitment, and retention.
- Organize two network-wide family engagement events per school year.
- Participate in canvassing, community advertising, and tabling; manage event and advertising budgets, and execute purchasing.
- Collaborate with and support the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment on student recruitment, enrollment, and registration strategy and implementation.
- Ensure organization-wide and community resources are included in school newsletters.
- Assist campuses with communications related to the DOE middle and high school enrollment process.
- Ensure families complete network-wide family-facing surveys with high response rates.
- Manage a budget and administer microgrants to families experiencing extreme financial need.
- Facilitate Family Empowerment Meetings and professional development sessions on family and community engagement.
- Field family questions and liaise with leadership to elevate family voices.
- Navigate organizational layers, including school-based operations teams and community partners, to achieve enrollment goals.
- Develop and maintain local community partnerships, maintaining an index and leveraging them strategically.
- Engage key community stakeholders to support and attend Coney Island Prep events.
- Connect community resources to scholars and their families through school-based staff.
- Plan organization-wide community events and community service opportunities for staff.
- Partner with the High School to facilitate community service opportunities for scholars.
- Connect Coney Island Prep to community resources, including non-profits, community and faith-based organizations, and businesses.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to broaden Coney Island Prep’s message and reach.
- Coordinate visits, campaigns, and collaboration with elected officials and advocacy partners.
- Participate in policy and advocacy meetings with other charter schools and share best practices.
- Regularly review enrollment data, identify trends, and create plans to address gaps.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- At least three years of teaching, school operations, or community organizing experience.
- Background in adult education, advocacy, grassroots organizing, social or civil action campaigns, recruitment, or community organizing preferred.
- Established knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets.
- Experience with project and budget management software.
- Knowledge of Schoolrunner, SchoolMint, PowerSchool, and/or HubSpot is a plus.
- Experience with organizing, planning, and facilitating large events and meetings.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends throughout the year.
- Ability to travel to all four campuses in the Coney Island area.
