About the Role
This entry-level trainee program prepares participants to become certified and licensed pharmacy technicians in New York State. The 14-week program includes extensive didactic learning, simulation lab work, and on-site experiential learning within the Mount Sinai Health System, all under direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Participate in all didactic/classroom, simulation lab, and experiential training as outlined by the program curriculum.
- Perform tasks under supervision of registered pharmacist and/or registered pharmacy technician and direction of the Pharmacy Technician Training Program Manager.
- Compound, prepare and process medications/medication orders for final verification by the pharmacist.
- Refill automated dispensing devices and dispensing technology in the medical center.
- Order, receive, and store medications and supplies.
- Utilize computer information systems to support pharmacy processes.
- Complete required cleaning, monitoring, logs, pharmacy/nursing unit inspections, recalls and outdates to established standards.
- Return reusable medications to stock.
- Assist in exchange of crash cart trays and auxiliary stock.
- Conduct all required deliveries and other patient care area rounds.
- Repackage medications as per departmental policy.
- Complete all required documentation and maintain records.
- Maintain work environment in a clean, neat and orderly fashion.
- Obtain medication information/history from patients and/or their caregiver for input into the electronic medical record.
- Assist in quality control projects as assigned within the department.
- Intake of new prescriptions and refills orders.
- Process sales transaction.
- Accurately place items on shelves.
- Appropriately rotate inventory to allow for early dated items to be removed first.
- Maintain a file of all receipts and prescriptions by date or as instructed by a registered pharmacist.
- Submit packing slips, bills of lading, etc., to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
