About the Role

The Law School is searching for a Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to develop and diversify practical skills and participate firsthand in operating a successful educational institution.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the administration, configuration, and maintenance of key library systems, including Koha, EBSCO Discovery Service, OpenAthens authentication, and LibApps.
  • Investigates and implements digital accessibility standards and best practices for all library supported content.
  • Manages backend settings, system integrations, and technical infrastructure to ensure reliable access and system interoperability.
  • Troubleshoots system-level issues and collaborates with vendors, IT staff, and library colleagues.
  • Manages library technology supporting public services, research, instruction, and internal operations.
  • Evaluates and implements new tools, ensures existing technologies are optimized, and resolves technical issues.
  • Develops policies, workflows, and documentation for library technology.
  • Provides training and support for staff, faculty, and students on library-supported tools.
  • Coordinates and tracks spending for library hardware and software budget lines.
  • Investigates, implements, and supports new and emerging library technologies.
  • Develops and documents technology policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Collects and analyzes systems usage data to support resource evaluation and decision-making.
  • Provides regular reports to inform library planning.
  • Assists with implementing and supporting library-supported educational technologies for legal research instruction.
  • Develops instructional documentation and training materials for educational technologies.
  • Creates and maintains internal policies for educational technology adoption and management.
  • Collaborates with library staff, campus IT, and vendors to maintain systems and technology infrastructure.
  • Coordinates communication and resolution of technical issues across platforms and service providers.
  • Coordinates vendor training and educational resources for library staff.
  • Manages the library’s in-house digital collections and oversees the institutional repository.
  • Optimizes findability and maintains long-term access and preservation strategies for digital collections.
  • Supervises and trains library staff responsible for IR content uploads and digital exhibit creation.
  • Provide general reference services both in-person and virtually.
  • Assist patrons with a wide range of inquiries from basic bibliographic questions to complex legal research.
  • Participate in legal research and library instruction and programming.
  • Participates in local and national professional associations.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current in library technology, computing, librarianship, and higher education trends.

Requirements

  • M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA accredited library school.
  • Demonstrated expertise and aptitude for learning technology related to job duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups within an academic community.
  • Knowledge of legal electronic information resources.
  • Interest in and commitment to emerging library practices and technologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and remain flexible in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to providing responsive, user-centered service in a legal academic setting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience, however, experience can be substituted with relevant education.
  • ABA accredited JD (or equivalent foreign degree) - Preferred
  • Degree in computer science, information design, network technology or equivalent experience - Preferred
  • Familiarity with Koha or other integrated library systems - Preferred
  • Familiarity with cataloging and metadata standards for e-resources - Preferred
  • Familiarity with legal electronic information resources and research platforms - Preferred
  • Proficiency with web design and familiarity with web standards and usability practices - Preferred
  • Experience teaching or training people to use legal research tools - Preferred
  • Experience providing reference and instructional services in a law library setting - Preferred

Salary/Compensations

  • $95,000 - $130,000
