About the Role

The Sr. Manager, Convention Sales will be a key member of the Convention Sales team, acting as an extension of the San Francisco Travel Association’s sales force. This role focuses on closing convention business by managing groups from the RFP stage to a definite booking, converting new leads into bookings for member hotels, and collaborating with in-market managers to create tailored customer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Business development of new leads for group association and corporate accounts.
  • Maintain existing client relationships through office visits, entertaining, and consistent communication.
  • Coordinate and own the RFP response process with the in-market lead generation team.
  • Generate new leads from the assigned lead generation territory.
  • Generate new bookings by qualifying business, finding dates, blocking space, and managing the RFP process.
  • Maintain production at or around 85% of predetermined levels/goals.
  • Coordinate with Services to organize and participate in sales sites for groups, face-to-face appointments, presentations, tradeshows, and client events.
  • Meet budgeted monthly, quarterly, and annual sales performance goals.
  • Book groups based on room nights, attendees, and room demand.
  • Generate leads from the assigned geographical market.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, finance, and operations, to meet sales objectives.
  • Track sales production goals.
  • Attend sales events and shows to increase overall production for San Francisco.
  • Serve customers by selling San Francisco hotels/venues/meeting venues.
  • Meet customer needs with a continued focus on the customer and a positive attitude.
  • Build and deliver fact-based selling presentations.
  • Proactively ensure customer/client satisfaction throughout the sales process.
  • Participate in and attend SF Travel sponsored member events.
  • Support the Convention Services Leadership Team.
  • Manage division support staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education and/or training equivalent to a college graduate.
  • 5+ years of directly related experience in hotel or convention industry from destination group/convention sales.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be available to periodically work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to travel domestically as required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds when supporting events or meeting set up.
  • Must live in a commutable distance to the Washington, DC metro area.

Salary/Compensations

  • $120,000–$145,000 base compensation annually
  • Additional opportunity for annual incentive compensation based on performance and organizational results
