About the Role

The Landau Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking an exceptional scientist, writer, and mentor to serve as Scientific Administrator. This is a scientific leadership role focused on shaping research strategy, accelerating discovery, mentoring scientists, and communicating ideas to funders, collaborators, editors, and the scientific community. The role involves serving as an intellectual and strategic partner to help move projects from concept to rigorous studies, grant applications, publications, and broader scientific impact.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with leadership to set and execute departmental priorities.
  • Manages and coordinates multiple, complex research projects from planning to completion.
  • Assists in writing and producing new and renewal grant applications.
  • Assists in developing grant budgets.
  • Prepares and compiles reports on project budget, finances, operations, and scientific progress.
  • Drafts annual and periodic scientific program reports for grant renewals.
  • Assists in researching and drafting large sections of invited review articles.
  • Designs and manages the creation and implementation of data collection systems for research projects.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of database use for data collection and analysis.
  • Assists with fundraising efforts and proposal development.
  • Manages the department's incoming and outgoing Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) and Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDA).
  • Supports senior leadership in cultivating relationships with strategic partners and stakeholders.
  • Serves as a representative of senior leaders in internal and external communications.
  • Performs literature searches and compiles scientific information.
  • Performs other position-related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Approximately 6+ years of research experience (academia, non-profit, pharma/biotech, or government).
  • Experience with clinical research management highly desired.
  • Knowledge of virology, gene therapy, and next-generation sequencing technologies is a plus.
  • Proficiency in computers (WordPerfect, Microsoft Office, and other database packages).
  • Sound business judgment and well-developed planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Extraordinary skills at presenting data clearly and compellingly.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to make quick, solid decisions confidently.
  • Ability to work independently and shift priorities in a dynamic work environment.
