About the Role

The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) is an independent body established to serve the public interest by setting high-quality standards and guidance and promoting their effective implementation in response to the evolving needs of Canadians. It actively participates in the adoption of international standards and the development of national standards adapted to the Canadian context. You will be part of a team of competent, dynamic, and motivated professionals who advise and carry out projects for the AASB. In direct collaboration with seasoned professionals, you will develop standards and guidance in auditing, sustainability, other assurance services, and related services for practicing professionals. You will lead standard-setting projects, formulate technical proposals for committees and the AASB, and contribute to the AASB's decision-making process on emerging issues. Additionally, you will represent the AASB and act as a credible and authoritative reference in consultations with a wide range of external stakeholders to gather their perspectives and communicate information. This will include preparing and delivering presentations, and facilitating roundtables and webinars.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive discussion papers to identify issues, explore options, and propose solutions in the public interest.
  • Follow a globally recognized formal process based on consultation and consensus-building.
  • Manage assigned projects by designing plans, facilitating meetings, and directing or supporting the implementation of communication and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct research to support proposals and present findings and recommendations to guide decisions.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other documents for internal and external use, simplifying complex concepts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers, and other partners to achieve common objectives.
  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with various standard-setting bodies and organizations worldwide.

Requirements

  • CPA designation
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in auditing and assurance
  • In-depth knowledge of auditing and assurance standards and their application, including experience implementing recently revised standards
  • Keen interest in the technical aspects of standard-setting, including adherence to principles of consultation, transparency, and accountability
  • Solution-oriented approach based on research, analysis, and critical thinking; ability to work with senior management to identify opportunities, manage risks, and develop proposals
  • Autonomy and ability to collaborate with various functions and departments as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills; ability to practice active listening, respect different perspectives, demonstrate flexibility, and work with key partners at all levels
  • Customer service orientation and proven ability to assess problematic situations and find creative solutions; aptitude for presenting ideas, facilitating plan execution, and building consensus
  • Genuine pride in work; ability to manage and be accountable for complex projects with a constant focus on integrity, meeting deadlines, and quality
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; focus on clarity, conciseness, and effectiveness
  • Excellent knowledge of Office 365, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Copilot
  • Bilingualism (English-French) is an asset
