About the Role

Our Legal Officers play a critical role in helping deliver justice by supporting the effective administration of Tribunals business. This role offers the opportunity to make informed decisions on processing appeals, ensuring better access to justice.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake a range of complex case work and assessment activity to determine how best to advance caseloads and remove barriers to case progression.
  • Make informed decisions on how best to process appeals.
  • Make case management decisions as part of delegated judicial powers.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and HMCTS colleagues to ensure the effective administration of justice.
  • Occasional travel to other sites may be required.

Requirements

  • A law degree or equivalent technical experience is desirable.
  • Demonstrate a transferable decision-making aptitude, working within a set framework or guidance and previous precedents, under supervision.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple levels of stakeholders, internal and external to the Tribunal, using varying communication methods and adapting communication to the audience.
  • Understand the importance of impartial decision making.
  • Ability to understand a wide range of information at pace.
  • Must have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and in the United Kingdom.
  • DBS Basic check required.
