About the Role

The Judicial Office (JO) supports the Lady Chief Justice (LCJ) and the wider judiciary in upholding the rule of law and delivering justice impartially, speedily, and efficiently. This role is central to supporting the LCJ and the judiciary, contributing to the independence and impartiality of the justice system.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement process and provide operational support on Commercial matters.
  • Advise and support the business in procurement activities, ensuring adherence to financial controls and approvals.
  • Collaborate with the MOJ Commercial team on procedures, supplier registration, contract maintenance, and pipeline management.
  • Lead the JO SPOC network for procurement, promoting best practices and staying updated on industry insights.
  • Participate in monthly Directorate meetings to identify and resolve issues.
  • Prepare monthly accounts, including variance analysis and commentary, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Manage monthly forecasting and upload Directorate templates into the Hyperion budget system.
  • Submit monthly financial returns to the Ministry of Justice, including cashflow.
  • Perform other month-end tasks and reporting, including journals and intercompany journals.
  • Provide support and analysis within the finance team.
  • Support business case clearance and log all cases and approvals.
  • Manage statements of financial responsibilities.
  • Provide cover for the Paybill Finance Manager.
  • Offer operational support on counter-fraud matters.
  • Assist with the transition from SOP to Synergy Finance System.
  • Line manage one EO.
  • Work with SPOCs across the JO and MOJ Commercial lead on Commercial to update costings.
  • Report on monthly actuals by month-end deadlines.
  • Provide meaningful commentary on variance analysis, explaining differences and highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Submit quarterly disclosure returns and manual accrual returns.
  • Assist in other Directorate reports (Private Offices, CMS) and Redfern Reports journals.
  • Support the Senior Finance Manager with ad hoc information requests and analysis.
  • Provide support and analysis to JO DDs.
  • Work with the Senior Finance Manager on assurance and controls, ensuring processes are followed and approved at the correct authority level.
  • Deliver Finance training through the Finance hub and intranet pages.
  • Oversee and support the Assistant Finance Manager.

Requirements

  • This vacancy is only available to existing Civil Servant employees and employees of accredited non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs).
  • Breadth of finance experience in Government, including month-end reporting and finance systems.
  • Proficiency in working with other internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills using multiple channels.
  • Strong organization and planning skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Security clearance required: DBS, CTC, SC, or DV.
  • Must be a UK resident for minimum periods depending on security clearance level (CTC - 3 years, SC - 5 years, DV - 10 years).

  • National salary range: £35,335 - £37,847
  • London salary range: £40,014 - £42,859
