About the Role

The Judicial Office (JO) reports to, and is accountable, to the Lady Chief Justice (LCJ). It was established in 2006 to provide support to the LCJ and to the wider judiciary in upholding the rule of law and in delivering justice impartially, speedily and efficiently. As Admin and Complex Appointments Leader, the role holder will be required to support an efficient complex appointments and off boarding service to the senior judiciary and the Lord Chancellor in relation to their responsibilities to judicial office holder appointments process(Courts, Tribunals and Magistracy).

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality and timely advice to the senior judiciary and the Lord Chancellor in relation to their statutory and non-statutory judicial appointments responsibilities.
  • Assist the G7 in the successful delivery of complex appointments, involving high quality advice and collaboration with other Government Departments.
  • Provide leadership of a diverse team and support the management of development and performance.
  • Oversee the provision of accurate and timely advice on senior judicial or ministerial approval for off boarding appointment matters, such as resignations, retirements, and complex appointments requiring liaison with other government departments.
  • Provide quality advice for transfers within Local Justice Areas and long service reports for the Magistracy.
  • Embed continuous improvement within the team, using quantitative information to inform decision making and review best allocation of resources.
  • Provide management reports and updates on team projects.
  • Review processes for non-JAC appointments to improve transparency, diversity, and cohesion.
  • Implement new ways of working to business as usual, balancing team demands and reviewing administrative functionality for efficiency.
  • Work with HMCTS, Private Offices, MoJ Pay and Pensions, and the JAC to ensure timely approval of judicial office holder appointments to sit in retirement and other ad hoc appointments/authorisations.
  • Ensure submissions prepared by the team follow approved templates and guidance, providing clear and succinct advice using correct legislation.
  • Provide advice and support to the senior judiciary on complex appointments, considering the wider impact of decisions.
  • Attend meetings with senior leadership judiciary to provide updates, support, and produce briefing as required.
  • Develop a collaborative way of working with SEO colleagues in the Onboarding Team and Relationship Management for a seamless systematic approach.
  • Ensure all trackers are current and relevant, using data to allocate resources, report on team performance, and evidence barriers or areas for improvement.
  • Cover and provide seamless leadership across all offboarding & onboarding areas of appointments in courts, tribunals, and magistracy during colleagues’ absences.

Requirements

  • This vacancy is only available to existing Civil Servant employees and employees of accredited non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs).

  • Ability to identify potential issues for the future and propose solutions.

  • Must be a UK national, national of the Republic of Ireland, a Commonwealth citizen with the right to work in the UK, or a national of the EU/EEA/Switzerland with settled/pre-settled status or a valid application for it.
