About the Role

Lead, support, and provide day-to-day guidance to an eight-person Guarantee Operations team. This role requires practical knowledge and experience of Guarantees and Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs), the ability to support the team, manage complex queries, and maintain consistent client service. The position involves regular communication by email and phone with internal stakeholders and a broad client base.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and provide day-to-day guidance to an eight-person Guarantee Operations team.
  • Perform and oversee the review of Guarantee and SBLC wording, issuances, amendments and closures.
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex, sensitive or exceptional client and operational queries.
  • Research, analyse and respond to client enquiries accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Produce monthly management and client reporting, ensuring service delivery meets current bank and departmental standards.
  • Monitor daily controls and escalate issues promptly to the team manager to support timely resolution.
  • Work closely with business partners to support the onboarding and servicing of new clients where required.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and stakeholders, primarily by email and phone.
  • Train new associates and stakeholders on Trade Finance fundamentals, products and processes.
  • Balance operational priorities effectively and take on additional responsibilities as business needs evolve.

Requirements

  • Ability to organise work, adapt to changing priorities, maintain accuracy and communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of processing Guarantees and SBLCs, including wording reviews.
  • Knowledge of the relevant rules and frameworks, including UCP 600, ISP98 and URDG 758.
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience supporting colleagues and building effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Clear communication, organisation and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and a consistent focus on accurate processing and administration.
  • Ability to make informed decisions, respond to changing requirements and manage competing priorities.
  • Willingness to learn, develop and take on additional responsibilities with appropriate support.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and rules.
  • Essential knowledge of Trade Finance products.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Skills

  • Proficiency in another European language, particularly German, would be useful for the role.
  • CSDG or CDCS qualification is desirable.
  • Project management experience would be advantageous.
  • Contributes ideas to improve processes and support effective solutions.
  • Considers a range of perspectives when assessing options and agreeing a way forward.
  • Builds relationships with clients to understand emerging business needs and applies learning to their work.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and supports constructive change.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to improve tools, technology and ways of working in response to changing client needs.
  • Values inclusive collaboration and considers the differing needs of clients and colleagues.
  • Project management experience would be useful but is not essential.
