About the Role
Nova Scotia Health is seeking expressions of interest from qualified physicians for the role of Specialty Zone Lead in the Eastern Zone. This role provides leadership and direction in the management and development of the Department of Palliative Care, manages day-to-day operations, and directs and coordinates operations. The Lead also provides leadership to the health team to create and support the organization's culture.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and direction in the management and development of the Department of Palliative Care.
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Department of Palliative Care.
- Directs and coordinates Department of Palliative Care operations.
- Provides leadership to members of the health team to create and support the organization's culture.
- Ensures a high standard of patient care is maintained by the medical staff.
- Brings a clinician perspective to operational and administrative issues, focusing on quality and patient safety.
- Ensures that medical staff are compliant with NSH Bylaws and Rules and regulations.
- Brings forward issues and perspectives of Department Medical Staff to the Executive Medical Director.
- Serves as Physician Lead for Emergency Preparedness activities.
- Assists in managing site overcapacity issues.
- Ensures service continuity through Department scheduling practices, including equitable on-call schedules.
- Approves and manages vacation requests.
- Chairs regular department meetings and attends other committee meetings.
- Participates in monitoring standards, quality, and utilization of Department resources.
- Participates in clinical services planning for the Department.
- Participates in respectful workplace responsibilities.
- Participates in recruitment/retention activities for the Department.
- Participates in new hire and onboarding processes.
- Participates in Leadership development and shows a commitment to lifelong learning.
- Leads the incident review process for the site, including family meetings.
Requirements
- Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
- Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- Certificate of Added Competence in Palliative Care (CCFP-PC) or equivalent accredited training in Palliative Medicine or Certified Palliative Medicine Physician by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCP-PM) or equivalent
