About the Role

Barker Associates is seeking a Senior Building Surveyor and Team Leader to lead their London surveying team, drive client business development, and strengthen team capability. The role involves combining project delivery with team leadership, setting expectations, overseeing quality, and supporting individual development to achieve operational and commercial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor throughout project delivery.
  • Lead the London surveying team, allocating and reviewing workloads, setting priorities and performance expectations, supporting wellbeing and engagement, and providing regular coaching and development.
  • Support the continued growth and development of the London office by contributing to resource planning, recruitment, business development, cross-disciplinary working and the consistent application of Barker’s project delivery and quality standards.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and quality standards.
  • Undertake condition surveys and prepare technical reports on existing building stock.
  • Prepare and oversee tender documentation, contractor procurement and contract administration.
  • Lead client, contractor and stakeholder meetings, providing clear communication and project updates.
  • Carry out site inspections to monitor health and safety, quality and project progress.
  • Manage project finances, including fee forecasting and invoicing.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying.
  • MRICS or equivalent professional accreditation, or strong post-qualification experience in construction consultancy or industry.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading, mentoring or developing building surveying professionals.
  • Ability to plan resources, manage competing priorities and maintain high standards of technical and commercial delivery.
  • Confident building client relationships and contributing to the growth of the London team.
  • Full clean driving licence with access to your own vehicle.
  • Subject to a DBS Enhanced check.
