About the Role

This role is responsible for the registration and scheduling process for complex patients within the HBD - General Surgery department. You will be the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a positive and professional experience while managing patient records and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist all patients reporting to the front check-in desk.
  • Greet patients promptly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record for patient registration and record maintenance.
  • Update insurance information, collect co-pays, and manage other check-in duties.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and referrals.
  • Communicate professionally and timely with providers, patients, clinical care teams, and insurance companies.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct them appropriately.
  • Maintain a professional image by adhering to the dress code.
  • Discuss financial obligations and explain regulatory forms.
  • Ensure an optimal patient experience.
  • Promote patient and employee safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • 2-3 years of office experience, or one year of related experience in a medical practice preferred.
  • Experience using an electronic health record and Microsoft Office is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high patient volume unit.
  • Ability to learn and utilize resources.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to review information and draw appropriate conclusions.
  • Good judgment and ability to problem-solve; escalate issues as needed.
  • Strong teamwork skills and work ethic.
  • Understand and promote patient and employee safety.
  • Promote a safe environment and promptly report issues.
  • Understand patient safety goals.
  • Access to information is based on a “need to know” and is the minimum necessary to properly perform assigned duties.
