About the Role

We are seeking a General Manager, Communications to act as a strategic partner to leadership, developing and implementing internal strategic communications for divisional and national audiences. You will also contribute to external messaging that supports the company brand and highlights executive leadership, while guiding the team's activities.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with senior leaders and principal leaders, build strong relationships, and provide strategic communications advice to influence business outcomes.
  • Actively contribute to the Communications team by collaborating on the implementation of a consistent strategic support model across the enterprise.
  • Develop strategic communication plans aligned with business strategy and driving strong business results.
  • Coach team members in developing plans for specific programs/initiatives using a forward-thinking, holistic approach informed by best practices in change management.
  • Collaborate effectively with business and function partners.
  • Present strategic solutions to internal client groups to illustrate concepts and gain feedback; anticipate potential issues and address them proactively.
  • Provide practical communications support to senior leadership team members of your business partners.
  • Explore new ideas, methodologies, and different ways to achieve results within our broader team.
  • Lead team members to provide strategic and tactical communications support and advice, leveraging a holistic perspective that aligns with business strategy and our brand.
  • Actively participate in team thinking and contribute to maintaining and strengthening team morale; take the lead in engaging third-party expertise as needed.
  • Lead team efforts to problem-solve and recommend solutions.
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop creative solutions to achieve objectives and meet project timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to ensure consistency in messaging, positioning, timing, and language used with various internal and external audiences.
  • Manage projects to meet communication plans and timelines.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Communications and a minimum of 10 years of related experience; a combination of education and professional experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability in writing and developing communication strategies.
  • Exceptional creativity and a strong command of a wide range of communication strategies – from presentation tools like PPT files to interactive emails, videos, infographics, social media, or evolving digital platforms.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with a national team located in various places.
  • Demonstrated executive relationship management skills within the organization.
  • Forward-thinking mindset, problem-solving expertise, project management skills, and the ability to implement strategic plans.
  • Experience in managing or mentoring others' development.
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects quickly, independently, and under pressure.
  • High attention to detail and ability to act with urgency.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to adapt in a changing environment.
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive or confidential information.
  • Proficiency in common office software.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint Online is a significant asset.
  • Bilingualism is an asset (fluency in French and English), but is only required for Quebec, as the incumbent will regularly serve our French and English-speaking clients.
  • Candidates must obtain a personal security clearance as a condition of employment.
