Responsibilities

  • Assist the Ski Manager with meeting operational goals, general ski shop procedures, and skiing/snowshoeing safety.
  • Teach cross-country skiing safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a safe and pleasant ski environment for guests.
  • Promote Mohonk Mountain House’s cross-country skiing and snowshoeing experience.
  • Teach cross-country skiing techniques outdoors in cold conditions.
  • Ski up to six miles per day.
  • Organize and communicate guest needs, events, conditions, problems, or concerns to the Ski Manager.
  • Record and coordinate ski lesson reservations.
  • Perform daily office procedures including answering phones, filling out reports, and managing voicemail.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly appearance in the Ski Shop.
  • Organize and maintain a rental system for skiing and snowshoeing equipment.
  • Interact cordially and professionally with guests and co-workers.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with ski, skate, activities staff, and other Mohonk Mountain House staff.
  • Perform minor maintenance on rental equipment, including bindings, poles, and snowshoes.
  • Provide ski and snowshoe trail recommendations to guests based on safety and ability.
  • Inspect trail conditions and recommend usage and maintenance.
  • Assist with snow removal at entrances and on the Boat Dock.
  • Sell merchandise in the Ski Shop.
  • Refill gas cans for snowmobiles.
  • Perform daily cleaning protocols.
  • Handle change, adversity, and pressure calmly.
  • Inspect the work of others for conformance to standards.
  • Analyze problems and develop action plans.
  • Operate a snow blower safely.
  • Carry a two-way radio for communication and emergency response.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations and cash handling.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • At least 21 years of age, or 20 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience.
  • Competent cross-country skiing skills.
  • Ability to work flexible or changing days and hours.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays when needed.
  • Ability to work in a manner that will not endanger self or others.
  • Ability to handle change, adversity, and pressure situations calmly.
  • Ability to inspect the work of others by touch, sight, sound and smell.
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop and implement action plans.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel, stoop, twist and flex arms, walk up and down stairs/inclines, sit, climb up/down ladders or stand for up to 5 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground level to waist level and carry a distance of up to 200 feet with/ without assistance.
  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day.
  • Ability to reach areas as high as 8 feet from a standing position with use of a step ladder.
  • Ability to see close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to speak clearly and in front of groups of people up to 15 people.
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and congenial manner.
  • Ability to hear verbal instructions, directions and warnings.
