About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional individual to lead the transformation of commercial auto pricing at Wawanesa, focusing on major pricing model updates using cutting-edge technology. The manager will lead the pricing team to perform comprehensive and timely actuarial analyses for all commercial auto insurance products.
Responsibilities
- Lead the rate review for all commercial auto insurance products, focusing on optimizing pricing models.
- Recommend pricing strategies that vary by product type and regulatory framework.
- Prepare necessary regulatory filings, ensuring actuarial practices align with accepted actuarial practices and are properly applied.
- Stay current with accepted and emerging pricing methodologies in the property and casualty insurance industry.
- Stay current with changes in market conditions and apply this knowledge to required rate changes.
- Work with multiple business units to determine profitable markets and design appropriate products.
- Drive the design, testing, and maintenance of new pricing models and tools.
- Collaborate with IT on the implementation of rate changes into the system.
- Closely monitor portfolio performance and the effectiveness of pricing strategies; proactively communicate findings and recommend solutions.
- Effectively communicate pricing analyses and recommendations to a broad audience, including but not limited to, Product, Underwriting, and Executive teams.
- Manage the performance of direct reports, including providing professional and technical guidance, and conducting regular performance reviews.
- Collaborate with peers in Commercial Lines Pricing to enhance team engagement and improve work-life balance.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders, including regulators.
- Perform any other assigned duties and undertake special projects as directed by the Senior Manager, Commercial Lines Actuarial Pricing.
Requirements
- University undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in actuarial pricing or a similar role within the P&C insurance industry.
- Experience in commercial auto pricing is an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of the P&C insurance industry and insurance operations in general.
- Critical thinking, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to synthesize and interpret data and information.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a simple and engaging manner.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and communicate a vision.
- Ability to proactively identify issues and take necessary actions to resolve them effectively.
- Ability to embrace change positively and adapt to it effectively.
- FCAS or FCIA designation is an asset.
