About the Role
Perform repairs and maintenance, inspect property, and ensure daily cleanliness of the surrounding property. This role requires adherence to health and safety policies and procedures, and involves working cooperatively with internal staff and external community members.
Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and maintenance as requested or assigned.
- Inspect the property and building for signs of damage and report findings.
- Maintain daily cleanliness of the surrounding property by removing refuse or debris.
- Seasonally shovel and salt walkways as needed and requested.
- Assist Maintenance Coordinator as assigned.
- Make suggestions to improve efficiency, working conditions, or procedures.
- Ensure all assigned shift duties are completed.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Work closely with security, identifying any safety and security needs.
- Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed.
- Report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries, or illness.
- Follow through on all safety and security procedures, including fire.
- Monitor and report any concern regarding adherence to acceptable health standards and physical property maintenance.
- Arrange for necessary repairs.
- Perform other position-related duties as required.
- Work cooperatively with staff from various Centre of Hope departments.
- Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and in-service training.
Requirements
- Minimum Secondary School Diploma.
- Additional training in Facility Services preferred.
- Knowledge of building systems preferred.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Drivers license.
- A copy of a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army is required.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or valid First Aid is considered an asset.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army is required.
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- A minimum of one year of prior related experience including general familiarity with maintenance procedures and equipment.
- Demonstrated professional maintenance skills in minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting.
- Capable of operating hand and power tools.
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships.
- Ability to deal with people in a pleasant, professional, and responsible manner.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope.
