About the Role

The Principal CRM Developer is the senior hands-on engineer for the technology powering the CAO's digital services, primarily built on Microsoft Dynamics 365. This technical leadership role, without direct reports, focuses on leading CRM projects, setting technical direction, and spending 80% of the time on hands-on development, including design, coding, reviewing, and shipping solutions. The role requires deep Dynamics 365 and Power Platform expertise combined with custom software development experience in areas like microservices, APIs, clean code, automated testing, and CI/CD. The developer will collaborate with teams to design reliable, secure, and maintainable solutions, raise the engineering bar, and apply CAO's engineering standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on development expertise in Dynamics 365 CRM, including plugins, custom APIs, PCF controls, JavaScript, configuration, and solution design.
  • Lead CRM projects from discovery through automated testing, deployment, and hypercare using Agile methods.
  • Design and build custom components such as .NET services, APIs, Azure Functions, Service Bus messaging, and Logic Apps, following clean code and clean architecture principles.
  • Design and implement integrations between Dynamics 365 and third-party or in-house systems.
  • Configure and customize Dynamics 365 to meet business needs, selecting appropriate tools (configuration, low-code, custom code).
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Dynamics solutions and custom components with a DevSecOps mindset.
  • Lead code reviews for CRM and related work, setting standards for code quality.
  • Apply CRM AI and Microsoft Copilot tools, including Copilot Studio, where valuable.
  • Manage technical debt through proactive refactoring and system improvements.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Apply and champion CAO's engineering standards and playbooks across CRM work.
  • Coach and mentor developers, business analysts, and QA professionals on Dynamics 365 and development practices.
  • Contribute reusable patterns, templates, reference implementations, and documentation.
  • Work with quality assurance to define 'done' criteria for CRM changes.
  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise solutions, defining application architecture, integration strategy, and technical roadmaps.
  • Define, document, and communicate solution, application, and data architectures.
  • Determine appropriate placement of functionality within Dynamics 365 versus external development.
  • Apply enterprise data management and governance practices.
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies, including AI and Copilot capabilities.
  • Advise on best practices for Dynamics 365 development and integration.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and tactical execution of system maintenance and optimization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in Dynamics 365 CRM development, including customization, extensibility, plugins, custom APIs, PCF controls, workflows, and custom entities, with recent and personal hands-on work.
  • Demonstrated custom software development experience beyond the CRM platform, including building .NET services, APIs, or microservices using clean code and clean architecture principles, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Strong proficiency in C#, with solid experience in modern .NET, RESTful API design, and version control with Git.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 application lifecycle management, including solution management, source-controlled solutions, environment strategy, and pipeline-based deployment.
  • Solid experience in solution architecture and systems integration, with the ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services such as Function Apps, Web Apps, Service Bus, and Logic Apps.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Automate and the wider Power Platform.
  • Proven experience leading CRM projects end to end and mentoring developers.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, prioritization, and risk management skills.
  • Experience applying and promoting engineering standards and playbooks across teams or projects.
  • Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle, with experience in Agile delivery and secure development practices.
  • Knowledge of CRM AI and Microsoft Copilot technologies, including Copilot Studio.
  • Experience with enterprise data management and governance, including data classification, privacy, access controls, and auditing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
